As of July 1, 2017, anyone over 21* - no permit or training required – is permitted to concealed carry firearms in any building on any public college and university campus in Kansas. This includes, but is not limited to, classrooms, dormitories, libraries, laboratories, sports facilities, student centers, faculty offices, on-campus daycare centers, museums, etc.
Despite a statewide grassroots mobilization, and the successful passage of a law continuing the exemption enjoyed by hospitals and community mental health centers, “campus carry” began on July 1.
This law makes attending a public college and university in Kansas far more dangerous, and is already costing us both faculty and students, who are opting for positions elsewhere.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Kansas Legislature and the governor to amend the Kansas Personal and Family Protection Act (K.S.A. 75-7c01 et seq.) to permanently exempt post-secondary educational institutions in Kansas from the concealed carry law.
* international students are not included
